Apparence générale. Le
Lévrier Irlandais est plus lourd et plus massif que le Lévrier
Écossais auquel il ressemble comme type général; le
Lévrier Irlandais est cependant plus léger que le Dogue Allemand.
De grande taille et d'aspect imposant, bien musclé, fortement, mais
élégamment bâti, aux mouvements aisés et actifs. La
tête et le cou sont portés haut. Tête. Longue; l'os frontal très légèrement relevé et la cassure du nex très légèrement accentuée; crâne pas trop large; museau long et modérément pointu. Yeux. De couleur foncée. Oreilles. Petites et portées comme celles du Lévrier Anglais. Cou. Assez long, très fort et musculeux, bien arqué et sans fanons. Épaules. Obliques et musculeuses, donnant de la largeur au portrail. Poitrine. Profonde et large. Dos. Plutôt long que court. Ventre. Bien relevé. |

Reins. Arqués. Cuisses. Musculeuses. Pattes de devant. Droites et solides; genoux bas, ni rentrés, ni écartés; avant-bras musclé. Pattes de derrière. Longues et fortes; jarrets bien descendus, ni rentrés ni écartés. Pieds. Modérément larges et ronds, tournés ni en dedans, ni en dehors; doigts bien arqués et serrés; ongles solides et courbés. |

Queue. Longue et légèrement
recourbée, d'épaisseur moyenne et bien couverte de poil,
portée avec une courbe légèrement accentuée vers le
bout. Poil. Rude et dur sur le corps, les pattes et la tête; particulièrement rugueux et long au-dessus des yeux et sur la mâchoire inférieure. Couleur. Gris, bringé, rouge, noir, blanc pur, fauve et toutes les nuances du Lévrier Écossais. Hauteur au garrot. Chiens au moins 79 centimètres; chiennes au moins 40¾ centimètres. Poids. Chiens au moins 54¼ kilogrammes; chiennes au moins 40¾ kilogrammes. Défauts. Tête trop lourde ou trop fine; os frontal trop bombé; oreilles larges ou tombant contre les joues; cou court; fanons; poitrine trop étroite ou trop large; dos ensellé ou droit; pattes de devant courbées; jarrets de boeuf; pieds tournés; doigts écartés; queue enroulée; arrieère-train faible; manque de muscles; corps trop raccourci. |

General Appearance. The Irish Wolfhound should
not be quite so heavy or massive as the Great Dane, but more so than the
Deerhound, which in general type he should otherwise resemble. Of great size
and commanding appearance, very muscular, strongly though gracefully built,
movements easy and active; head and neck carried high. Head. Long, the frontal bones of the forehead very slightly raised, and very little indentation between the eyes; skull not too broad; muzzle long and moderately pointed. Eyes. Dark in colour. Ears. Small and Greyhound-like in carriage. Neck. Rather long, very strong and muscular, well arched, without dewlap or loose skin about the throat. Shoulders. Set sloping, muscular, giving breadth of chest. Chest. Very deep; breast wide. Back. Rather long than short. Belly. Well drawn up. Loins. Well arched. Thighs. Muscular. Fore-legs. Strong and quite straight; fore-arm muscular; elbows well under; neither turned inwards nor outwards. Hind-legs. Long and strong as in the Greyhound; hocks well let down and turning neither in nor out. |

Feet. Moderately large and round,
neither turned inwards nor outwards; toes well arched and closed; nails very
strong and curved. Tail. Long and slightly curved, of moderate thickness, and well covered with hair; carried with an upward sweep, with a slight curve towards the extremity. Coat. Rough and hard on body, legs and head; especially wiry and long over eyes and under-jaw. Colour. Grey, brindle, red, black, pure white, fawn, or any colour that appears in the Deerhound. Height at shoulder. Dogs minimum 31 inches; bitches minimum 28 inches. Weight. Dogs minimum 120 lbs., bitches minimum 90 lb. Faults. Head too light or too heavy; too highly arched frontal bone; ears large and hanging flat to the face; neck short; full dewlap; chest too narrow or too broad; back sunken or hollow or quite straight; fore-legs bent; overbent fetlocks; twisted feet; spreading toes; curly tail; weak hind-quarters; want of muscle or too short in body. |
